Malta Double Taxation Treaties in Force

Double Taxation Treaties are agreements entered into between two states designed to prevent excessive foreign taxation and provide certainty of treatment of cross-border trade and investment. Such Treaties are also drawn up to safeguard the states’ taxing rights and protect against attempts of tax avoidance or evasion.

Typically, Double Taxation Treaties afford relief from double taxation where the same income is taxable in both states. In line with Malta’s pro-business policies aimed to promote cross-border economic activity and international investment, to date Malta concluded over 65 Double Taxation Treaties with countries across all continents.

The majority of Double Taxation Treaties listed below are based on the OECD Model Tax Convention on Income and on Capital.
